Welcome to the Athenaeum of Hermes-Thoth
Welcome to the Athenaeum of Hermes-Thoth -- an online library dedicated to the study of Neoplatonic and Hermetic philosophy. The Athenaeum Library is host to scores of electronic books and texts on the subject of Neoplatonic and Hermetic philosophy, as well as the ancient Greek and Egyptian religions, and other related subject matter. This library also makes available to all several rare and difficult to find texts, such as Proclus's Commentary on Plato's Timaeus, the Chaldaean Oracles, and Ocellus Lucanus' On the Nature of the Universe, among others.

It is our hope that, in providing such resources online, more people with an interest in philosophy will be able to access these materials. Furthermore, the spiritual aspects of Neoplatonic and Hermetic philosophies do provide a comparable alternative to mainstream religions, which now more than ever seem hopelessly mired in dogma and quaint superstition. For those interested in a more intellectually-minded form of spirituality based upon Neoplatonism, Hermetic philosophy, and modern scientific principles, please visit the Apollonian Fellowship at Apollonica.org, or you can participate online by joining the Apollonianism Yahoo Group.
Who Is Hermes-Thoth?
Hermes-Thoth, also known as Hermes Trismegistus (Hermes Thrice Greatest), is a syncretic deity combining the Greek god Hermes and the Egyptian god Thoth. As the God of Knowledge, Science, and Reason, as well as Magic and Alchemy, he has been adopted by the Athenaeum of Hermes-Thoth as our "patron deity", along with Apollo (of course) and Athena, goddess of Wisdom.
Numerous ancient writings are attributed to Hermes Trismegistus, namely the Corpus Hermeticum and the Emerald Tablet, but he is also said to have authored as many as 36,525 manuscripts. He taught a philosophy of mental perfection and gave to the world a path to spiritual enlightenment.
